Northern Idaho guides and outfitters for Moose hunts
Buckshot Outfitting is extremely proud of the high quality Idaho moose hunts we offer. There is no better moose hunting in the continental states than here in northern Idaho. An abundance of Shiras moose with light hunting pressure creates a fantastic opportunity for a trophy, if you can draw a tag. 2001 was the first year drawing an Idaho moose tag became a possibility for nonresidents. Prior to this it was limited to residents only.
I spend a great deal of time and cover a lot of this country scouting, guiding and hunting for whitetails and mule deer, glassing for bear, chasing cougars and cruising timber. Naturally I take a lot of mental notes regarding where I've seen big bull moose, as well as their habits and habitat preferences.
The most difficult part of your north Idaho moose hunt may well be drawing the tag. Over the last few years odds of drawing a tag have run about 10-15% on the moose hunts that coincide with my outfitting territory. Fish and Game requires all nonresident applicants to purchase a hunting license which is currently $141.50. This is not refundable if you do not draw a moose tag. If you're going to be hunting in Idaho anyway then that won't be a factor for you as you'll have to purchase it anyway, however, if you're only interested in moose you'll have to decide whether or not you're willing to gamble that $141.50. The tag itself is $1759.50 and you're required to submit that money with your application. You'll get all but $6.25 back if you do not draw the tag. The application period is the month of April.
Idaho also has two separate “Super Tag” drawings for moose tags that are a lottery in which a person can purchase as many tickets as they want. The winner gets a moose tag good for any moose season anywhere in the state. A number of successful applicants have chosen to hunt here with us with excellent results.

We can tailor a hunt to your schedule and trophy requirements (i.e. if you have high standards you may want to consider a longer hunt, if you'll be happy with any legal bull a shorter hunt may suit you), but as a baseline a 7-day hunt is $4500. This includes meals, lodging, guiding, meat packing (not processing), trophy preparation and Spokane airport pick-up and return. If you apply for and draw a tag for a cow moose I'll provide the same services for a 4-day hunt for $1800.
If you're planning to apply for a north Idaho moose tag and you'd like to hunt with me please contact me beforehand and I'll give you information regarding which hunts to apply for and provide whatever other assistance I can with the application procedure.
